Want to get our turkey a friend/mate but would like to know what breed he is so we can get him a compatible friend. Thanks.

I'm not a turkey expert, but it looks like a mixed turkey. Almost looks like 3 turkeys cut and glued together. Can wait to hear what some of the color experts on here have to say.

A sweetgrass is a Royal palm without the Narragansett genes. A fall fire is a sweetgrass with a songle red gene.

Royal Palm = b1b1cgcgngngRR (b1 = black wing based, cg = gray gene, ng = narragansett gene, and R = not red gene), more commonly written b1b1cgcgngng

Sweetgrass is b1b1cgcgNgGNgRR, where Ng= "not narragansett", also written b1b1cgcg.

Fall Fire = b1b1cgcgNgNgRr, or b1b1cgcgRr.

The lack of reddish tint in the overtail coverts has me leaning towards sweetgrass, although the shoulder is dark. The Royal Palm quality of the chest is surprisingly well preserved.

Any clue as to what the parents looked like (so we could deduce whether ot not a red gene is present)? The parents may have looked nothing like sweetgrass or royal palm.

I bought him as a replacement for my boyfriends that was killed by a fox but unfortunately the person I got him from wasn’t sure of his breed either. He said that he thought he might be a Sweetgrass. I’m trying to find out so if we get a hen they can hopefully mate but want to make sure I’m finding him a compatible friend.

We are in Eastern PA. I’ve looked at a bunch of pictures of turkeys, honestly didn’t know there were so many breeds, and think he looks like a mix of the Fall Fire and Sweetgrass. If would be interested in breeding would it matter which breed hen we got? I’m a horse person and know you can sell a mix breed but it’s still not the same as a full blood offspring, but don’t have much experience outside the horse-world but would think it was the same.
