So I decided to move my three young ducklings into the larger flock run. Don’t worry, I didn’t put them in with my flock (chickens + 1 Turkey hen) but rather put them in a medium sized coop beside the large chicken house.
Here’s the question:
My Turkey hen, Ethel, is all wound up about it! As soon as I brought the ducklings into their new coop and Ethel (6 months old) saw them she began pressing herself against their coop and making a noise I’ve never heard her emit. It’s like a pleading sound. A consistent chirping to them over and over. She fluffed up all her feathers and is just staying there chirping, looking at them. It’s like a soft chirpy cry.
None of the chicken hens or the rooster seem to care at all.
What is this about?
Does she think they’re her babies (she’s never been bred or had babies)?
Does she think they’re a danger to her flock? (She’s like the flock auntie/moderator)
I pet and soothed her for a while but she won’t leave their side nor stop her crying sound. What is happening? lol
