Two eggs in one hour - help!

We're having some great progress! Yesterday, Olive seemed exhausted. Her wattle and comb were still red and would drink water, but she didn't want to walk around or eat much. We've given her Nutri-Drench and calcium directly, and today, she's actually bee-bopping around. I've even seen her eat a few times

Our EE seems to be back to her normal self. She laid an egg yesterday and has a healthy appetite.

Will forever sing our praises for calcium citrate and Nutri-drench!

Good morning! Our Olive hasn't laid since her prolapse. Her energy is super high, and she is eating like nothing is wrong. We check her vent regularly, and it doesn't look bad. She's going to the bathroom just fine.

Does the stress impact her egg production? We're just worried about potential lash egg or eggs breaking inside. We haven't felt anything weird with her stomach.

Many things can affect production. She may be taking a break hard to know.

Our girls are almost one year old, and today we had the weirdest experience. Our Easter egger looked strange. At first we thought she was egg bound or had diarrhea. I even went to get epson salt to prepare! Then she laid an egg outside, and looked better. Standing up straight and preening. Less than an hour later it happened again. This time with a shell-less egg.
Years ago I had a whole flock like this, regular shell-less eggs from chooks that had already laid while having access to soluble shell grit. It turned out that they were producing eggs faster than their bodies could process the calcium. The shell-less eggs stoped after first moult and they just laid 1 extra large egg every day after that.

I'm super thankful that all of the girls have high energy and a good appetite! Their combs/wattles are nice and red, so no one looks dehydrated.

We're getting new chicks soon, and it was a good wake-up call that we haven't experienced much with our current flock. We've been super lucky - no mites/lice, and the pecking order was hashed out in the early months. No one has been sick!

I am curious - I'm keeping an eye on my buff orpington and blue cuckoo maran. I have a feeling they might be the first ones to go broody.

This has been a stressful spring!

1. Our Olive Egger prolapsed again on Friday. She's not rebounding as quickly as the first time. We've given her calcium citrate for the egg binding, and Nutri-drench for nutrition. She didn't want to eat for the first time yesterday. She sat in the nesting box most of the day to rest. Today, she's just sitting at the waterer. Anything else we can provide her? Or do you think she's failing?

2. Our Easter Egger (original culprit of this post) hasn't laid much. Maybe two eggs since her double-egg moment last month. We checked her out over the weekend and realized how many feathers she's lost! Is it possible the stress has caused a weird molt? She's the only one with that many missing feathers. We have cameras on them and haven't seen any signs that they're being picked out.

Also, we don't have any roosters.

I'm unsure if this is connected, but we found moldy feed at the bottom of our scratch bag. We've completely replaced it and cleaned out the picnic tables. None of the other birds seems to be showing signs of GI distress.

I'm sorry you're having so many troubles.

Sometimes prolapse can be chronic. It can be due to genetics, nutrition, disease, etc. Hard to know the cause.
Often the best you can do is treat symptoms as they arise. Ensure that you are feeding a nutritionally balanced poultry feed, limit treats like scratch/seeds, etc. and keep parasites at bay.

Thank you and everyone else for being so helpful! ❤️

Olive passed away last night. We took her to the vet, and they did an X-ray. They didn't see any formed shells, but the vet thinks she had peritonitis. They sent her home with antibiotics and pain meds. We hope she had a pain-free night.

Hermione (easter egger) laid an egg yesterday, so at least she made some good progress!

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope Hermione continues to get better.
