One thing people love is the feeling that people are paying attention to them and really do want what is best for them. Unique posts are more welcoming and friendly, especially if you ask questions!I

Almost everybody's favorite subject is themselves, but on BYC, it is themselves and their flock. So, ask questions!

I heard a story recently about a group of people who recruited more than any other group, and when the new members were asked why they said it was because "it felt like when we came into the room, everybody turned around to welcome us."

When people feel like nobody notices or cares about them, they often leave. So please, make unique posts!

Agree with sourland and Chrissynemetz, our greeters already do a great job of welcoming new folks. It isn't a competition for greeters to come up with the most fabulous opening remarks and maybe win an Oscar ..

New members frequently mention the warm welcomes they get to BYC. It isn't possible to wine and dine new members yet, they are happy to join the BYC flock.

I'm not trying to ruffle anybody's feathers here, I think our greeters are amazing!

Then why create this thread? The opening post was all about doing better not a "thank you all for taking several hours a week out of your busy schedules to greet our new members and let them know what a warm, friendly community they are now a part of."
Sometimes I will try to help a new member who has asked a specific question or questions.
Sometimes I try to say something humorous to get a laugh out of them and make sure they all know we can be silly.
SOMETIMES a new member doesn't really give you anything to work with and it's like pulling teeth to get them to open up.
Everyone is different here.
All the greeters are here to welcome, encourage and help our new member utilize this wonderful resource to it's fullest potential.

P.S. - Very nice reply @drumstick diva.
