Using metal garbage can as feeder?

W/ all due respect @Sondraa you linked to an anecdote and a self-diagnosed suspicion (from someone who previously self-diagnosed the duck as having lead poisoning - maybe not the most reliable of opinions).

I'll take my advice from Paracelsus, "the dosage is the poison", read the studies, and make my own risk management assessment as required. In sufficient quantity, EVERYTHING is fatal. Salt, Water, Oxygen, any Vitamin or Mineral you choose to pick.
The screen shot clearly states owners had their bird tested. Anyway. It's not my job to prove someone else's experience.

Nevermind I just asked AI.
You are scaring me AGeese.
I’ve heard that somewhere but I don’t know much about it if it’s true or not. I should look into it.
They are antagonistic, meaning too much of one mineral or element can affect the ability to absorb another element. Too much of a lot of elements that people like to take as supplements can cause a lot of other definciencies. Zinc and copper battle it out so you have to keep each in balance in your body if you are taking supplements. But Zinc levels can cause plants to not take up NPK or other nutrients/minerals.

Which is why a balanced ration made by a reputable feed company is usually the best method for feeding chickens.

Thank you!

It's the bacteria that gets in the rust so still not a good idea to be eating it imho.

Well, close. Tetanus is caused by the Clostridium Tetani bacteria is in the soil or manure, really doesn't care about the rust other than riding along when the dirty nail punctures your skin. More likely the bacteria is already on your skin and gets dragged inside when the nail punctures your body.

No doubt some bacteria or mold or something will eat rust which is iron oxide but in its purified form or even from a cast iron skillet it is beneficial so I'd not worry too much about the element/mineral itself.
