These eggs were not cheap. I had been waiting to order them for a year. First time I ordered them, they arrived beat all to heck...holes in box, shavings falling out, crushed, etc. The seller packaged them great...but it would’ve taken an iron shell to withstand the abuse by USPS. They reimbursed all but $45. Four hatched, I considered that a win. I was happy.

So....last week I decided to try this again. I ordered the eggs. Seller sent them out promptly. I paid $10 extra to insure special handling. Oh they were especially handled alright. They were special handled all the way to friggin Alaska!!! From Florida. Supposed to get to Virginia. ALASKA!!!!!!!

I’m dying inside.

Sorry this happened to you. I think most of us on here have horror stories about how the postal service has mishandled eggs, chicks, etc. Many breeders have stopped shipping both eggs and chicks due to the increase in mishandling.

I can only imagine your frustration. :barnie

The first time I ordered hatching eggs, they were from a neighboring state...but were sent way up north (!!) during a cold snap. Needless to say, none of the eggs hatched...very disappointing.

On the other hand, other hatching eggs arrived pretty much safe and sound (despite scary exterior damage to the shipping boxes) and hatches were good.

It really is possible for them to arrive safely and hatch well. Sorry that yours have been sent on the "scenic" route. :(

I have been pretty lucky when I have shipped eggs. The eggs have all arrived to their destination ok but some of the boxes did have some damage, but luckily all of the eggs arrived intact. I try to do test hatches before I send out eggs so hopefully the recipients get a good hatch rate. My first two hatches this year weren't that great but I have weekly hatches and each hatch is better. I have another batch hatching out on Wednesday. I hope your eggs make it ok.

Let me just say....I ordered many batches of eggs during December. Everything was perfect!!! Until Christmas. The day after Christmas I had some shipped to me, and I guess someone was disgruntled working the holiday and played kickball with the box. It was awful. Or so I thought. USPS reimbursed that one. The PO lady will call and warn me if it’s really bad. 4 hatched out of 12.

Next batch came from OH. Took a detour through NJ, down to DC, way on down to NC, back up to VA. In 12 days. During the polar vortex. 1 hatched out of 7. (see post about Miracle the chick). Got reimbursed.

The third time was the one mentioned above...where shaving were falling out of the box driving down the road. The same type of eggs. Just another unfortunate mishap. Got reimbursed partially. 4 hatched out of 18.

Then this. I almost had a heart attack driving up the driveway trying to check my phone update. I thought I was going blind or losing my mind when I saw AK!!!

Not to mention the 2 incidents I’ve already had with USPS this week! I sent chicks out, 1 day shipping. The tracking popped up that they were 150 miles away at the main hub at the end of the day. The next morning it showed that they were back 50 miles away from our house. I spent all day Tuesday on the edge. I didn’t know if something went wrong or if they were sending them back!? Come to find out, their software scanning system is apparently junk, and it registered it wrong. Fedex intercepted the package and there were no further updates until it arrived at the destination. You talk about sick all day thinking I’d sent a box of babies off to their death! It arrived a day late but they all made it!

And I also sent eggs that I watched get scanned. Well the crap didn’t update for 2 days until the package also arrived at its destination! For 2 days all it said was “label created”...so of course that looks horrible on my part as a seller. Their tracking is terrible!!! I’m just going to stop looking before I drive myself nuts! The eggs did arrive safely and intact.
