Hi. This is my first post, but I've been a member for a year now. Actually, it's not my first post- I originally posted this in the New Members Welcome thread and I was directed to this side.
I have learned so much from other posts, but this new ailment is something I am not sure about. I've had my two Silver-laced Wyandottes, one Easter Egger, and one brown hen for three years now, and recently they have all stopped laying as of 2 weeks ago. One of the Wyandotte's started molting on Sunday, and on Wednesday I discovered her in the coop on the roost, with white and yellowish discharge coming out of her vent. I thought it might be a stuck egg, but I felt around and didn't feel anything. The other wyandotte started molting yesterday, but isn't experiencing any of the other symptoms her sister has. The Easter Egger started molting yesterday, too, but she doesn't have any other symptoms either. She just molted a month ago, so it seems really off that she is molting again. The brown hen seems completely fine, but she isn't laying. None of them are.
So, on Wednesday, I posted to this forum about the Wyandotte with the ooze coming out of her vent, and I posted a picture asking if it was vent gleet. Someone directed me to a website that talks about vent gleet and the treatment for it, so I began treating my hen for it yesterday since it sounded about right. This is the website I was directed to: http://www.tillysnest.com/2012/12/v...campaign=Feed:+tillysnest/vxqr+(Tilly's+Nest)
I have done all of the steps EXCEPT for the Nystatin, which I was going to get from the vet tomorrow. She seemed better yesterday, and today she ran up to me when I got home, and continued to scratch around the yard and eat and drink. She went to the roost when everybody else did, so she seems better, but she still has this yucky poo that has a bit of yellow and green in it. It's light yellow- not quite yolk colored- and it's mucous-like. She had one poo that had a bit of reddish brown in it, so I got worried about coccidiosis. Her vent is still red and swollen, and she seems to strain when she poos, but it's also still messy on her vent. The other girls act fine- they run for their scratch, they have their dirt baths. But they aren't laying and their tail feathers are coming out.
I have Gail Damerow's Chicken Health Handbook and it has helped, but I am lost with this new thing. What do my girls have?? I'm so worried about them, but my husband said that they all seemed fine today, aside from the one with the runny poo.
I am attaching the photo I took Wednesday. She looks better now, but it's still runny.
