CoopCam captured something new last night, and I don't know if it's normal or if Lucy is having a problem and needs help.
I went to the coop and brought her into the house only a few minutes later, but I saw this footage way later.

She seemed perfectly normal in the house with us, but I didn't inspect her for I-don't-even-know-what at the time.

Is it a cough? silent scream? Dream (do chickens dream?)? sleep apnea? Beyonce impersonation?

Please help me out if you've seen this before.

It may be adjusting her crop. How does her crop feel? They can get something in the crop that may be hard to pass. It should have food inside it during the day, but in early morning it should be mostly empty and flat. If it is not empty in the morning, describe if it is firm or puffy. Make sure that she has access to water all day long in multiple places. Does she have poultry grit available? Do you hear any sneezing or coughing during the day? If she has food coming back up from her crop, she may have to cough to clear her airway. Here is a good article on crop problems:

She has plenty of access to water. I have grit out for her and for her flock mates who are all eleven weeks old. She is almost two years old, The grit is Scratch and Peck Layer grit that to me looks like boulders and Sand P starter grit that is almost like sand. I haven't figured out an efficient way to serve it, they spill bowls, so I just keep piles and some scattered in the run.

No coughing or sneezing. I'll check the link and check her crop. at roost time and at breakfast.

Thanks for the response.

I think she is just adjusting her crop. She probably went to bed with a full crop then a few hours later things were ready to move on to her stomach so she had to jiggle things around to help the contents move along.
She had been "in bed" for about 45 minutes, but she hadn't yet finished reminding her flock mates that she's top pecker. She was telling who could sleep where and when. At first I thought it was a Karmic issue. LOL.

So cute!! She probably just needs to move things around in her crop, and maybe even yawn. Yes chickens do dream, but thats not the case for this. I have a cat feed and water bowl out for my chickens. This way they have access to oyster, and grit at the same time, 24/7. 100% recommend.

I have fashioned wires to hold small bowls off the ground at the posts around the run. I'm going to give that a shot. Cat dish will be the backup plan!
