Hi,
My chickens tail feathers are being picked by each other and I read that spraying vinegar on the feathers then the other chickens wont peck the feathers.
Does this really work?
Is it safe?
What vinegar should I use?
thanks in advance
bye

It’s likely safe, vinegars can be used in a lot of things for poultry - from cleaning products to consumption, I’d only use ACV for consuming however. I would think there’s a reason behind them pecking each other that could be dealt with, what are you feeding them? What’s the protein level? How big is their run and coop and how many birds are in there? Is there a particular bully or weakling in your flock?

I agree your flock will be best off if you address the reason for the pecking. Switching to a 22% protein feed solved the problem in my flock (I had just one picker and one victim... both high in the pecking order.
Interestingly, I wanted to use up the rest of the 16% protein layer feed I had before getting more of the high protein stuff and the picking came back. I’m switching them back to the high protein again in the next couple days and hope it stops again. Good luck to you!
