Was wondering how close my Red Star is to laying

I've been lurking around this site for quite a while, figured it was finally time to get an account! Anyways, I have a suspiciously rapidly developing baby.
I know they're not supposed to start laying until 20wks, but she's at 14 and a half and already has a much more developed comb and wattles than her fellows (same age, we got them as day-old chicks). Apologies for the bare dirt in the background, it's been pretty hot and the gals scratching at the dirt has not helped the grass in that respect.

Of course I don't expect her to suddenly start laying in the next week or anything, but given that she's much more developed in the comb department than anyone else, is it reasonable to assume that any eggs that do appear in the nest boxes in a month or so are more likely to be hers?
(her name, for the record, is Schnitzel. A bit morbid, but it was Middle Sibling who decided upon it, not me)

The comb size has nothing to do with being mature sexually. Comb color does indicate sexual maturity, though. Once you see the comb become bright red, that means her hormones are becoming active.

During molt, the hormones deplete, and the comb can become pale and flacid until the hormones are stimulated again by lengthening daylight.

One sure way to tell how close a pullet is to point of lay is by checking how far apart her pelvic bones are. I have three pullets the age of yours. Yesterday, I decided to check them to see how close they are to that first egg. One is very close, the second is farther behind, and the third isn't anywhere close, though they're all the same age.

To check your pullet, locate the vent. On each side of the vent are two bony knobs. My third pullet's knobs have no space between them. The first pullet's knobs are far enough apart for me to fit one finger between them. When those knobs become far enough apart to fit two fingers between them, the first egg is just days from appearing.

I have the same breed ( Golden Comets) I think. I know they go by several different names. The first pullet was 17 to 18 weeks old before she laid her egg.
