Still new to the chicken life so bare with me as I ask this weird question -

I gave my ladies watermelon yesterday due to the heat and this morning I noticed a newer pile with red in it. I don't want to jump on the coccidiosis bandwagon as they are all seeming to be healthy and happy and everything else looked good.

Wondered if certain foods cause looser/discolored poop. I know it happens with humans and certain foods so just not sure about it with chickens.

Can you post some photos of what you see?
How old are your chickens?

More than likely if they ate watermelon, then yes...the red you saw is from that.
Watermelon is a good hot weather treat, but it does make for a looser stool. Certain foods can cause a variation in color too:)

My girls range in age between 14-18ish weeks. I don't have a picture as I was doing morning chores and left my phone in the house. If I notice it again, I will take pictures.

Ik when I feed scraps to my chickens some wont digest everything properly and it comes out the other end as long as it's not a recurring thing I wouldnt worries to much about it

I see it when my flock gets watermelon. They love it but it does exactly what you said...gives them loose, red poop. Scared the heck out of me the first time I saw it.

Thanks everybody. I got a little worried when I first saw it. :barnie I figured you would be easier to ask here vs trying to go through Google and causing me to freak out even more than I already had.
