Hey guys,

I need help, I’ve noticed couple of weeks ago that my jap silkie rooster start having spots on his comb, picture won’t justify it, but it’s like little caviar eggs in dark brown color appearing on his comb, all flock is healthy, no mites as far as I know but the rooster situation is worrying me, have my chickens only from few months so have zero experience, any advice or input would be appreciated

What is your location? It could be stick tight fleas, which usually need to be removed with tweezers. Vaseline or Neosporin ointment applied may help to smother them. The coop then should be emptied of all bedding and treated with Permethrin. Here is some info about those, and let us know what you think.

Thank you, I’ll check the link in a moment, my location is Tenerife - Canary Islands, so generally warm, in winter like now temps are varying a lot but never below 9C, humidity is the one that is off chart meaning one day can be at 80% and like today at 40%, where I live we kinda have own micro climate
I have jap silkie 3 chicks and one rooster around a year old, all laying eggs, then in same coop I have two bantam “mix” chicks and also a rooster, none are affected, plus one more cross breed chick
Hey is changed every 2-3 days, plus daily they go out for couple of hours to one acre field
Those little caviar balls look like greenfly that I sometimes find on the corn, but more translucent brown with some shades of light to dark brow, it could be light effect depending how I’m looking at them
They all feed with mix of grains, cooked rice and lot of left over veggies/fruits from the garden,
And daily fresh water
My misses should be back soon, then we will get better pictures and examine it by trying to remove them
Once again thank you, I’ll move to your link now

Fully correct, it’s stick tight fleas, I’m gonna toss all the hay into closed worm compost and sterilise area, and type of extra treatment I should give to my chickens ? I’ve just seen post of FB BYC from tenerife where I live, asking for types of medicine / insecticide as we do have problem to get stuff here if not shipped from elsewhere, don’t need to be a brand name but the active component
Also checked my dogs and found one bastard between the paws, was curious why she was licking her feet constantly last two days

Thanks a lot, it was very helpful and immediate 💪🏻🤗

I’ve been cultivating a lot, biological products only used, after revising what I have I think I will go with Beauveria Bassiana for disinfecting, is a type of mould /fungi that kills majority of insects, worked well with many problems I had in past decade and I got product on my hand
Will apply after few days once Vaseline was used and day before I remove all the hay, then I’ll spray it again, might even spray the chickens (only feathers) see how it goes
