Hello, I really want to know what to do. My wife and I rescued a bunch of Coturnix Quail, have been getting them in good health, and now being eaten out of house and home. I have tried to post them on sites like Craigslist and Backpage with no results. I want to find good homes for them. But most of the suggestions I have been getting is eat them. What is a good price to ask for them? Most are 5 to 8 weeks old, and about 25 chicks that are about a week old. I really just want to re-coop my expenses. Thanks for your help.

About $2-$3 a bird of you can find anyone that will take live birds. Most people that are into Coturnix raise them for food & don't want to take the chance on a sick bird.

What do you mean by rescue? That term is thrown around loosely anymore. If they came from somewhere that didn't take care of them then I doubt anyone will want them. Not even for food.

ETA: After reading it again you say they are or at least were in poor health. What does this mean? They should probably be put down & burnt before they infect other birds. You might want to check regulations. Most states have cracked down on birds & if you transfer a sick bird you my find that you are into a much bigger expense.

Ok Thanks. The Birds were in small pens with **** about 2 1/2 feet deep under there cages. The birds were thin and under weight for there age. I had them for a few weeks, and have started to grow back feathers and have gained back weight, and are at or above normal weight now . some had eye problems, and some were put down, took the lot to a bird vet and had a good bill of health, I ate some my self, wife did not care for it and it's just to many birds for me. I have not and did not want any more birds, as I have the birds I was starting with, Just could not leave them like they were. I have separated the males from the females and the females are laying eggs now. Almost an egg a day. After reading your post I think now I got really lucky that none of my other birds got so sickness and am glad these are doing so much better. THANK YOU again, any other suggestions please let me know.

Question for you. Do they make a Quail Plucker? My wife said I needed to find a replacement for her. Kind of joking, but not really. I still chuckle seeing her with all those feathers. LOL But seriously do you make one? I saw your icon and thought you might?
thx

Actually I did make a few different ones. They all sucked but I still have it somewhere. Lol

If your going to pluck I found it easier to do by hand. I don't like plucking tho & I don't like then cooked in the skin so it works out better skinning them for me.

Suggestion tho. Help her pluck if you want her to keep happily doing it. A job I don't like doing sometimes becomes pleasant if the wife & I can get along & have a good conversation or play around doing it.

We had a thread years ago on these quail pluckers. Seems I remember someone using the duck plucker Cabella's sold that mounts to the tailgate of the truck with some success.
