hi, so one of my lavender orpington hens had this weird black spot on her foot. it had a little bit of a bump, but was otherwise just a black spot. at first i thought it was bumblefoot, because my other lav orp hen had struggles with bumblefoot, but i’ve never heard of bumblefoot on the top of their foot. i tried touching it to see if it hurt her, but she’s not very friendly so im not sure if she moved away from me in pain or because she didn’t want to be near me. at first, i didn’t even notice the dots because her feet are already pretty dark. hopefully its not something that is hurting her.

Wow, never seen anything like it! I have had bumblefoot on the top of the foot, but it looked like swelling and then turned into open puss filled sores.

Are the scales where the black spots are split?

i don’t think the scales are split, they are just lifting a little bit. i’m curious as to what they are. i’ll check on her tomorrow and hopefully get some more photos of her feet. should i remove those black spots? or should i just leave them be?

If they come off easily, sure. If they seem to be damaged scales or flesh, no. In the later case, I would soak her feet in some warm water and see if that will loosen the injured portion for you to get a better look at it.

ok, i’ll try to bring her inside tomorrow for a foot soak since it’s been negative weather outside for a while now.
