What are the best breed of chickens for free range

Hiya, and welcome to BYC!! :frow

We safely free-range our silkies with lots of wind spinners, solar motion lights, two dogs, two cats, etc. They can't fly nor run fast, and can't see well usually either unless I cut around their eyes.

If you want to pick better chickens than this, look for ones that can fly and run fast, but even so, they'll still become bait for predators if you don't do something to help prevent predators from coming around.

Hello and Welcome to BYC. Glad to have you here in this poultry lovers community. Dark colored ones do better than white one free range. Free Range is also risky if there are predators any where in the area. They all like chicken dinners. Dark Cornish lay well enough for home eggs and produce good meat birds and are good free rangers. Anconas are a good flighty breed and lay a lot of eggs.
