NewHopePoultry, the pigeons in the picture definitely look like Classic Old Frills. The one in the center is a Satinette, blue with opal (?) bars. The two with similar coloration on the left and right side of the picture are also Satinettes and both have spot tail patterns - main color is probably a darker brown lace color but could also be a form of opal or burnished black lace. I cannot tell what color the one hidden in the middle is, but he/she might be a red or red lace Satinette.

Sometimes it can be a bit more difficult to tell the males apart from the female Classic Old Frills, but yes, generally the males are a little larger with a slightly thicker mane and will dance and coo more frequently than the females.

I absolutely love Classic Old Frills, especially the Satinettes. They are very cute pigeons and some can have such happy and upbeat attitudes! They also come in a wide variety of beautiful lace colors.

Just out of curiosity - are you interested in keeping these birds for showing purposes?

If you do intend to show some of these Classic Old Frills or breed them to produce offspring for show, I would highly recommend studying which traits are desired in show COF's (Classic Old Frills) and choose the ones which have a mix of the best traits overall for their breed and which have a good demeanor (unless you intend to take all of them home

). I can see a couple of color/pattern flaws in the COF's in the picture you posted, but it is very hard to find an almost perfect pigeon of the breed. Thicker neck manes, neck slightly arched back onto the body, short but sturdy and functional beaks, roundish heads, slightly poofy cheeks, peak crest, centered frill, good-shaped foot feathering, slightly upright and proud stance, prominent breast, and overall cobby and cute looking birds are some of the desired appearance traits other than pattern and color for COF's.

The NCOFC's (National Classic Old Frill Club - http://www.classicoldfrill.org/index.htm) website has a lot of detailed information regarding the show standards for this breed as well as contact information for some of the club officers - they are very nice and knowledgeable people and would gladly direct you to other people who keep COF's around your area as well as any local pigeon shows where Classic Old Frills might be. You are also welcome to post/pm me pictures of any new COF's of yours and I can give you a quick overview of what strong/weak traits I see for their breed. Even with the show standard, everyone seems to have their own personal preference of what traits they prefer for their Classic Old Frills. I prefer ones which are short, cobby, have overall good color of course, detailed/otherwise unique lacing or pattern, nicely feathered feet and which have a charming attitude. I have seen many Classic Old Frills (even ones which ranked very high in shows) which in my opinion are a little too 'elongated' looking, have sparse or short foot feathering, and although have almost perfect color and pattern they don't possess those roundish features which help make the birds look so cute. Some of the most adorable COF's I have seen (and my overall favorite line of Frills) are from Dave Mott's lofts - he is currently the western director for the NCOFC.

Classic Old Frills are a pleasure to work with and are a low-maintenance show breed which is very entertaining and rewarding either in show or simply as pets and companions. Good luck with these guys - if you have any questions, ask away!
