Hi! So this year I decided to get into Brahmas!! I am going to get 18 pure Brahma chicks and I am so excited!! Hopefully I will get them tommorow if my Dad has time to pick them up🤞. So the gal has 5 different colored chicks and I was wondering which color you like the best? I am hoping to keep one as my new roo! Feel free to weigh in and also say why you are attracted to that specific color or pattern! And if you have any advice for a first-time-Brahma-owner please leave a comment! Thanks and have fun! I'm kinda digging the partridge!

The Lights and the Buffs look prettiest to me. The "prettiest" color is always a matter of personal preference, because different people like different things.

Yeah they are really pretty! I just like to see what others preferences are like😁

Being a Brahma breeder you become partial to all the colors you raise as each is just so different but having exhibition lines of dark and lights are wonderful they are what I show but my favorite color is the blue partridge. The bright color blue partridges is what my breed standard is because some come in a darker dull color but mine are the very vibrant colors. I just posted a waiting list for my blue partridge this week and again today. What I can suggest for you is to keep them in a dry place. Do not let their feet get muddy or the feathers on their feet will snap right off. The dried mud just destroys the foot feathering. Be patient Brahmas kinda have a mind of their own when it comes to fertility. Some times you just can’t force them to have good fertility and it has nothing to do with you doing something wrong it’s the breed. Now you might also if the fertility is low or none is pluck about a quarter or 50 cent piece of feathers out around the hens vent because they both are so extra fluffy In that area and it can give troubles . Dont pluck the boy but also notice I said pluck not cut the feathers. If you cut them you can cause troubles for the rooster as they are sharp and prickly. Also be patient because Brahmas don’t lay their first egg until about 8 months old. That’s a long wait believe me. Then you have to wait a little while before hatching so your not incubating pullet eggs making the chick start life extra small. You want to feed them a pretty high protein their first 3-5 or 6 weeks like a 28-30% then drop and maintain at about 18-20% until laying. As a breeder you need to look on Google and get familiar with why it’s so important to feed your breeding stock a good breeding supplement and the benefits it brings to the fertility yes but the amazing chick benefits make it so worth it. I do not sell chicks that the parents have not been on a breeding formula not just rooster booster but breeding formula as the hatchability goes up the embryo develops much better the immune system is stronger the over all health is better and this follows them into adult hood and with me shipping chicks I like to know that I’m putting the strongest chicks I can get in those boxes. Pay close attention to your external parasites as they love the foot and leg feathering on these birds. Note when they get older how the leg feathers make the scales stand up that’s normal it’s not scaly leg mites and it’s also normal if their feet start looking blood red like inflamed . That’s characteristic of a feather legged bird. If you ever have a question you can find me here or on Facebook. I tend to answer more quickly on messenger than here. Good luck with your babies and your gonna love them . Enjoy the pictures. 😁
