So we're going to hand a coop and run all in one built on-site. 6x12, with the coop 6x4 at one end. We live near Fort Worth, Texas. The back of our house faces west.

So I'm thinking of having the long axis going north- south, with the coop at the south end. There will be roof over the run as well as the coop. Thinking the people-sized door into the run to be on the east side, facing the house back door, the nest boxes on the east side of the coop, and ventilation triangles off hardware cloth up high on the south and north sides, window(s) with shutters could be south or east. I was thinking not the window or ventilation on the west side, as our storms come rolling in almost always from the west. This way the run will get the most shade.

Is this good? Or do they need more sunshine?

You can have windows on west side also , if they are closable during a STORM. Make sure you have enough ventilation, important during Texas HEAT as well as winter cool.
YOUR ORIENTATION DIRECTIONS SOUND CORRECT FROM WHAT YOU STATED ABOUT THE WIND/STORM DIRECTIONS.
Plenty of natural light into coop is ALWAYS GOOD.
WISHING YOU BEST..................... :highfive:

Aim for shade, and I agree with not putting windows or vents on the side of prevailing winds (unless they're louvered or can be closed... I have only 2 small louvered vents facing my wind direction).
