I bought my chicks in March....4 Rhode Island Reds and 2 that I can't remember for my life the breed (they were in a different bin). As they grew, I thought maybe the 2 might have been older because they seemed to be getting bigger than the RIR's faster. And the thingy on the top of their heads (gosh, the correct name escapes me!) and the wattle was much bigger than the others. THEN, one morning about 3 weeks ago, I almost dropped my coffee mug when I heard "cock-a-doodle-doo! Good heavens, even I know chickens "bwauk" not crow! I realized I had 2 roosters!
I went to get feed from the place I got them from and asked how that happened.....the sign said they lay brown eggs and that they are good layers. The girl said the sign must have also said "straight run" and they could turn out to be either one. This just gave me a whole new list of questions! Can anyone explain more? Please?
