How come I never knew this? I can't wait for my next cough. Amazing! READ IT ALL.

It works 100 percent of the time, although the scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered it) aren't sure why. To stop night time coughing in a child (or an adult, as we found out personally), put Vicks Vapor Rub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime and then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about five minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. This works 100 percent of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly. I heard the head of the Canada Research Council describe these findings on the part of their scientists when they were investigating the effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines in children as compared to alternative therapies like acu-pressure. I just happened to tune in to a.m. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs, so I listened. It was a surprising finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime and in addition to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly. My wife tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100 percent! She said it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her. The coughing stopped in a few minutes, and believe me, this was a deep (incredibly annoying!), every few seconds, uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough-free for hours every night she used it. If you have grandchildren, pass it on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be absolutely amazed by the effect.
I got this e-mailed to me today. I thought i would share.

Wow, that's amazing! I'll have to get some, we're always getting sick, and my mom tends to get respiratory problems all the time that make her unable to sleep because of her coughing!

I know darn well it works when applied to your chest, as I just had to do it, after being attacked by a cough for over a week. But Never heard of the foot thing, Kind of neat actually!

I've heard about this before. And I too know from personal experience, that it works when rubbed into your chest; my grandma used to slather it all over me

Maybe the reason I can't stand greasy stuff, or lotions to this day

I have done this with my kids and grandkids for years, it does work although my 25 yr old daughter thinks I am off my rocker,

We do this with our son who seems to get a frequent cough--anytime the weather gets dry. Dr. prescribed Deslym (sp) and it works but is strong. You are only allowed to use it once every 8 hrs.

The Vicks works better and works everytime.....

....my grandmother said "I told you so!"

I always. tell everyone to put vicks on their feet/socks and bed. They look at me like I am crazy . It does work and it feels good.

Back when I was a child, more years than I care to remember, Vicks VapoRub was one of the most important things in the medicine cabinet. Mother would slather it on our chests and necks, then lay a warm piece of fleece on us and we lay still on our backs, all covered up, all night long, not daring to move. I remember doing that when I was about 2 years old. When our noses and lips got chapped and raw from the cold, she would put on the Vicks. It burned, but next morning we would be almost well. She also would put it in a pot in boiling water and then drape a towel over our heads and make us breathe in the steam. It sure opened us up so we could breathe. Yep, me and Vicks VapoRub go way back. It used to be in a much prettier jar, though. It was cobalt blue, and we used alot of it. Seven kids, and we were usually all sick with colds all winter. Boy, the good old days....LOL
