I now that some breeds of geese can live 40 years. I have heard several people mention Sebastopols they had that lived to be 12, or 16, or 20 but not too old so I am wondering, what is the average lifespan of Sebastopol geese?

It depends on their living environment and diets.
I would say average based on what I've seen others talk about would be around 10-12, longer if really well cared for.
My oldest sebastopols are going to be 7 years old this spring. Still going strong. The female has issues every now and then (shes on the heavier side) but always comes right out of it if I separate her for a couple weeks and baby her. LOL

My neighbors have some chinese geese going on 35 years old. They got them as goslings for a wedding gift. Had 20 of them, they are down to 5 now. And even get an occasional egg now and then during the spring still!

I've talked to several breeders who say that well cared for late teens, to mid 20's is pretty normal for sebastopol geese. We've got a few we purchased that I know are at least 7 and 8 years old and doing great.
