Today we got 5 turkey poults from Rural King. They were labeled as heritage but the employee said they suspected that someone put BBBs with them. We picked out every poult that was "different" than the bulk of them we figured were the BBBs. That gave us 4 very different looking poults, the 5th was identical to one other. I've labeled the photos A thru D in hope someone can help me with kind they are.
A- In the store it looked mostly buff with brown polka dots on the back. Close up I now see some red and yellow.
B- I believe this one to be a Blue Slate
C- Very light gray with slightly darker gray spots and a little bit of yellow on the head
D- This is the one that they had two of. Brownish heads changing to gray brown bodies.
Unless Google is wrong or something changed, I read that Rural King uses Hoover hatchery. I also read that Rural King says their heritage assortment includes Royal Palm, Blue Slate, Bourbon Red, Narragansett, and Black Spanish. Obviously none are Black Spanish but this is old information because when I looked on Rural Kings website, they don't list turkeys anymore. I remember they did in the past because they listed them in the same strange way as their chicks. (Old faithful assortment, tried and true, etc)
Anyways, thanks for your insight. Also, this is only our third time with poults, any tips and information about them and how to keep them as they grow would be great. Our others were BBW and black Spanish. In the photos I have tried to make it easier to see their colors by including others in the picture but crossed them out.
