What's the best indoor duck?

I am giving up on my marriage. In doing so I have decided that having a flock of ducks along with 4 kids, dogs and taking care of the house is just going to be too much. I am thinking about having 1 indoor duck and putting it in diapers (have 2 kids in diapers, might just as well be changing a duck too!). What kind of duck would make the best indoor duck? I am thinking a female would be a better choice, is there a specific breed that would work well? I am not a huge fan of runners or muscovies but am open to pretty much any other kind.

Talk to nettie. She has runners that live indoors all the time. She has a great website www.indoorducks.com. While you will get several opinions on here, as one was already stated, many people do not believe ducks should live indoors...but it really is up to you. A pekin might be a good choice for an indoor duck since you dont like runners...they dont fly, they rarely go broody, and they have very entertaining habits. Nettie can also help you out with the diaper issues...shes got great diapers and leashes for her ducks. Also if you are going to start with and indoor duck you may want to start with a day old hatchling...you want the duck to imprint on you. Hope that helps.

Why not reduce the flock down to two hens and leave them outside? Then they wouldn't be a huge headache, still produce eggs, but wouldn't be the absolute mess they can potentially be by being indoors.

Otherwise- I have to agree from my limited experience: a stuffed duck is the only good indoor duck. Stick to more domesticated breeds or smaller birds that can live indoors peaceably.

Not mine! I suggest you have a girl in the house. My boy is a terror! Once the hormones hit he bacame evil and wanted to hump everyone and everything, bite and play tug of war with whatever he could grab on you including your lips, eyes, skin, whatever! OUCH!
He will chase you around until he can't run anymore! He wants to dominate everyone! I love him and he is still sweet sometimes, likes to hang out and watch tv and he is great with the diaper, he was the best little baby but now he really tests my patience, he is like a bad dog. He also has no interest in any of my other ducks outside... in fact he is totally afraid of them.

By the way, he is a blue swede and they are normally very mellow. My other males were very low key, he is CRAZY.

Tee hee- I didn't know people kept "house ducks"! I'm going to show this thread to DH to convince him that my growing flock of outdoor chickens is low-maintenance by comparison!

I have my calls indoors too-just started talking with Nettie, she is great for all this stuff. I also have one cagyua male and one khaki campbell male and a snowy mallard male-all 3 of them try to sometimes hump each other when they are outside playing but havent had too much trouble in the house, they are all going on 2 years now, the calls are only 2 weeks. My khaki boy is the best behaved, but all are very sweet-I like males because the girls can be loud. Im waiting to see if any of my calls are girls because they will be the loudest. Mine all get some play time outside most months though.
