I'm building a DIY coop/tractor and its turning out kinda heavy. Any ideas for strong tires and how best to attach them? Also will the 2" fencing be OK for the run floor? I want to keep out predators but also let them scratch the earth...
Here is a video of my progress

Thanks
Matt

Ijust finished my chicken tractor about about a month ago.My wheel setup was one thing that
i did allot of research on.My coop weighs about 350lbs and I wanted it to be easy to move and sturdy. There are some good wheels that I've seen on other tractors, but nothing I really liked.I wanted the wheels to be at the balance point of the tractor so I wouldn't have to lift one end to move it.There are some tractors with a cantilever setup wheels at the balance point. After some though I came up with the idea for using trailer jacks with some wheel barrel wheels on them. The whole setup cost less than $100 and I couldn't be happier with this setup. It takes less than 2 minutes to lift the tractor up about 6 inches and it move easy. What ever wheel setup you decide to use I would recommend using as big and wide a wheel as you can.Wider wheels sink less in the ground and the bigger the wheel the easier it will roll.I don't have any wire on the bottom of my tractor. They are closed up in the coop at night and during the day I don't think any predators would try to get to them.

I like this setup, can you share the specifics of what you bought to put this together ?

Prior to today, the last comment in this thread was from June of 2013. I'm glad you dug this up because I LOVE the trailer jacks for wheels! That is a great idea:clap

Bailey43 or anyone in the know.
Where can the Swing (retractable) Trailer jack that is shown allows attachment of the large wheels above (wheel barrel wheels, looks 8” or larger) be purchased? Most of the trailer jacks seem to only come with smaller caster wheels. Can someone share which brand and model of retractable or swing trailer jack is used and how the larger wheels are attached to it? Thank you.

Okay - so I wish that the original poster had more information about their chicken tractor modification using the tractor jack. We really need this setup for our tractor. It looks like they used a Pre-Fab Products tractor jack. I just need to figure out the wheel modification. It appears they attached the wheelbarrow wheel with an extra long bolt through the original caster, but I'm not sure the rest of the details...

I wish both the OP @dubplate8 and @bailey43 were still around to tell us what and how....
...but both have been gone since 2015 and 2013.
Y'all will just have to search products to find a jack and wheel that look right.
