Seems like there is a lot of mixed information on the internet. I just got a bunch of speckled Sussex and at first I read they start laying around 5 months. But today I saw 8-9 months. What are people’s experience with this breed?

Around 6 months give or take depending on the time of year. Those that mature in the late fall will often mature more slowly, and start laying a bit later, which isn't always a bad thing.

I got my first egg from one of my Speckled Sussex. She was 19 weeks. I also have two other Speckled Sussex, Barred Rocks, and Golden Laced Wyandottes that are the exact same age getting fed the exact same things and none of them have started laying yet. They are all 20 weeks and 1 day.

I hope mine start around that age lol. That would be great. Thanks

It's the middle of summer and my hen who is 4 month laid her first egg last week and another this week. My flock get yo roamy part of one of the mountains making up the valley where I live so they get to act like any of the other many kinds of birds where I live.

My Speckled Sussex bantams have not yet begun to lay, though one has a bright red "big girl" comb. They'll be 19 weeks in two days.
