I am new to having turkeys this year got some last spring and I have 3 left from the holiday season for breeding in the spring. I have a tom bourbon red, 2 hens a blue slate and royal palm.

I am guessing they will probably start when the days get longer and warmer so around april but not sure. figured I would ask to make sure. My birds are free range and roost in the trees at night they dont like it in the shack with the geese and ducks.

I guess my turkey is confused she laid a clutch of 14 and started to sit they were not fertile so I found some chicken eggs for her to sit on I should know if it works around the 17th of this month

It depends on your area. Each area has a slightly different breeding season and egg laying starts and stops a little earlier or later depending on the climate. Down south they seem to start very early and stop very late like kuntrygirl has stated about hers laying almost year round. Typically egg laying starts spring and ends in Fall.

I live in NH and last year my Turkeys started laying eggs mid March and stop early November. I hear still laying in November up north is abnormal though. I noticed that my turkeys will start mating about a month before egg laying begins so watch for that. My turkeys are already showing signs of mating, they have been for the past week or 2, so I am hoping eggs are right around the corner for me.
