I know that it can take up to a year for hens to fully grow…But I was curious if my breeder bought Barred Rock Hens (born in June 2021) will be smaller than my TSC Barred Rock Hen (born in April 2021)?

My TSC hen is very large, and her tail is almost completely upright.
My breeder bought hen and pullet are a bit smaller than my TSC hen. Their tails are not up right, sort of horizontal, and they seem to be a bit smaller overall. One started to lay, while the other is coming to POL.

Maybe the genes from the breeder Barred Rock have a tenancy to produce smaller hens? While TSC, since they buy from a hatchery, are larger?

Or, hopefully, do my little Barred Rocks have to still fully mature?

The picture shows my breeder bought Barred Rock in comparison to my leghorn….. Both breeder rocks are the same size

Thanks!

The breeder looks normal sized to me! They vary how they are built. I think you'll just have to give em time to grow. All of my Barred Rocks are from TSC and FFAH. There are some smaller ones and some huge ones. Just kinda depends ☺️ I think that yours are all gonna be roughly the same size ☺️

Thanks for replying!

I was hoping that the breeder didn’t produce small Barred Rock! Barred rock are so fluffy, so I was looking forward to more extra fluffy bums😂

I will just have to see how much they grow over the next 6-8 months!

Here’s a pic, of my TSC hen…Not the best size comparison😅
