I got the LG incubator and decided to get the turner with it. I bought some cheapie thermometers with the humidity dials on them at Lowe's since I was told the thermometer that came with the LG was defective and wouldnt read correctly. My question is, the thermometers I bought are about 8 inches long, how do I set them up in the incubator? If I put anything heavy on the turner it wont turn correctly, right? If I put anything that puts them above the eggs as your suppose to they are too close to the heating element. Im not sure what to do. Help!!

Temp should be taken at top of egg height so can you just lay it accross the tops of some of the eggs? The turner turns so slowly maybe it will stay there. Or depending on how wide it is you could attach it to a strip of heavy paper wide enough to sit on top of the eggs?

I can't picture what kind of thermometer you are using. Knowing that the ones that come with the incubator are junk, I layed them across the top of the eggs, but I bought a thermometer/hygrometer combo from Walmart. You want to try to measure the temp at the center of the eggs, so I set it up on a wood block and the right rear corner out of the way of the turner. Good luck!

Put those on the side of your house or on a table and get two inexpensive DIGITAL thermometers at Wally World. If you have a full load put them on top of the eggs but be prepared to pick them up with every full turn of your eggs. If you only have a dozen or so eggs in the incubator, just put them down on the cups on opposite sides of the incubator and then get a nice middle temperature between the two if they are different. Mine read 98.7 and 99.5 or some combination that put them close to 99.5 between the two for the 18 days until lockdown and I have 2 chicks on day 20, and the rest are rocking and rolling.

I put a larger piece of hardware cloth over top of the eggs and laid the thermometer on top of that so it wouldn't fall between the eggs and jam or break eggs. I would run it around 101-102f up on top of the wire, hatched mostly on time... most yolks were absorbed. Sometimes my styrofoam incubator got cold around the sides, especially in the corners, so some of them never developed enough. I have since quit using the turner and just hand turn and rotate the eggs from outside to center, gradually making their way back to the outside spot in three or four rotations. Here's hoping for a more even hatch...

Try to find a digital one with a magnite on the back. You can place it right on the turner with no ill effects. I only set 36 eggs at a time in all my LG's, fo there is plenty of room. They are easy to read right though the window, large numbers.

Thanks for the help!! I decided to take the turner back. I am going to WallyWorld this weekend and get the digital thermometers. The ones I got now were between 2 and 3 dollars at Lowes. I have three in there right now. They are reading between 98 and 1-2 depending on the height. I have them at varying heights. I candled the two eggs I have in there now and they are still kicking so I think so far so good. The humidity on the therms read anywhere from 50 to 60% also depending on the level they are set. They will be White Leghorn and Buff Orpington crosses when and if they hatch so I will post pics when they do!! Thanks for the info!!
