I have been drooling over this breed for some time now and I think I am ready to take the plunge. I have looked at Pauls Poultry, Blue Poultry and Foleys Waterfowl. They are all priced relatively close, they all seem to have very nice stock. Has anyone purchased chicks from any of these breeders? I would love to here from you and maybe see pics of your birds. These are all LF breeders, the only bantams I have seen were from Hattrick Silkies and a lady by the name of Ruth Bloch (greengirl on eggbid). Anybody else with blue laced red bantams? I am new to BYC and already hooked! Thank you in advance.

I've got birds from a few different people and I have to say the ones From Foley have the best combs and type so far. Most of my other cockerels have too much tail and way too much gold in their hackles so they are going to be sold or eaten soon! Jesse Pauls birds are gorgeous also. Best thing to do is ask for pics and compare them to what a wyandotte should look like. Gold in the necks of the blr is not suppose to be there and is hard to get rid of and the only way is to breed birds that do not have this. You can't go wrong with either of the two I mentioned above they have top notch birds!!

Thanks encore, I was leaning towards one of these 2 breeders. I know people ship chicks all the time during inclement weather, but I worry they will arrive very weak or dead when it is this cold. In Ohio we are dipping into the teens and lower at night and only getting up into the low to mid 30's during the day. Do you have any experience buying or shipping chicks in cold weather?

I have but always with priority mail but just recieving. I've never shipped chicks yet. Both of the mentioned ship express and am sure they wouldn't ship unless they felt certain all would be ok!

Second, where are you? That would help, because some good breeders may be quite close to you

Third - I'd definitely say that Katy has some amazing Wyandottes, especially BLRW, but you'd need an incubator, because like almost everyone else here, she sells eggs.

This comment is going to be thoroughly unhelpful (just thought I'd warn you in advance!), but ooooh, the thought of bantam BRLW...

Might have to get myself some hatching eggs in the future! Promised myself to not get any more birds for at least a month or so, but I'm definitely going to look into those.

Silver Pheonix...It is so nice to be surrounded by people who can relate to this addiction! lol. Most people just don't understand:(

Hi Illia, thanks for the warm welcome to BYC. I might be interested in Katy's BLRWs, I am a little leary of eggs though as I have tried them twice(shipped) and had 0 hatch. I just ordered a new Genesis pre-set incubator and plan to set some of my own bantam SLWs to see how it does. The breeders I listed seem to have some really nice birds as I am sure there are many others who do also, I would definately be interested in seeing others birds as well. Thanks Again
