Whiskey Barrels for Chicken Waterer System

Good afternoon everyone, I want to set up a waterer system for my flock, and I'm solid on using Whiskey barrels because plastic has toxins and will go into your clean water when refelceted upon.
So, I wanted to ask if anyone with exsperience with these barrels had to put a coat inside the barrel to sustain your clean water to store?
And if so, ide like to ask what is the best material to put in your barrel that us safe for my ladies waterer system please, thank you!

I don't know a thing about whiskey barrels. Are you able to open it up to put something on the inside of it? Do you have a few pictures of it?
