White barred chicken...?

This spring we hatched out chicks from our own eggs and out of one of the eggs came a big fluffy white chick who turned out to be a cockerel. Well today I decided to pick him up and noticed there were vague stripes on his feathers. Is it dirt? Does he have very lightly barred feathers? Why and what is this? Is there a name for this?

Your cockerel might actually be splash barred. He'd be so light you would think he's white but actually up close you'd find he's barred. Some people call it "ghost barring."
Those feathers look really cool!

Sounds like dominant white can cause this if it is heterozygous.
