Hi I am looking for a young adult/juvenile chicken to put in with my lonely Easter Egger. I have 2 Isa Brown chicks that are only a few weeks old so want an older one I can put in with her sooner. I'm looking for a good egg layer and good temperament. I've found a White Leghorn and New Hampshire Red as possibilities. I wouldn't mind the white eggs from the leghorn but heard they are noisy and not that friendly. I've also heard the RI Reds are better than the New Hampshire Reds. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your time.

:welcome I have both Rhode Island Reds and Leghorns and they are both good layers. The Leghorns are much more flighty than my other birds. My Rhode Island Whites are also good layers of nice large brown eggs. One good thing for the Leghorns is that they never seem to stop laying even when molting. My Leghorns are good at finding ways out of their coops and pens. Maybe there is a farm swap near you where you can get some birds. Good luck and have fun...

My White Leghorns are more flighty than my Brown Leghorns are but they are all more flighty than my other birds. My Leghorns do start crowing much sooner then my other birds.

My 3 leghorns are not any noisier than any of the others. Also they are not particularly flighty. Brown leghorns they are.

Thanks for the info!

Maybe the white leghorns are louder or flightier?

I was thinking of getting one but had never heard the noise thing until above.

And very sorry for hijacking your thread LLL
