Has anybody ever seen an egg with a white yolk?
Is there reason for alarm? What can cause such a weird egg?
btw, this egg was laid by a barnyard mix hen.

The yolk gets it's color from what the hen eats. The more green stuff the more orange the yolk gets. Color of yolk does not affect nutritional value at all. White yolks are just as good as yellow or orange ones. It's the lutein in plants and veges that chickens eat that makes the yolks orange. Most people prefer yellow or orange yolks, but nutritionally it matters not.

I have heard that all the egg producers buy marigold petals to feed their hens so they will have orange yolked eggs and if they didn't the egg yolks would be pale white. That's been sometime ago though... Every now and then in California I would see a big truck full of what appeared to be Marigold flowers going down the road...

Yes, I heard huge egg conglomerates put marigold in feed. I wouldn't think it would be all that much because marigold is one of those aromatic plants that even deer do not eat unless they are starving. I also think the trucks you saw were full of safflower plants. California produces 50% of safflower used to make cooking oil. It's grown all over my area. Breanne, where are you located? Howdy there!
