We have been raising Chickens for 10 years and have about 20 chickens that are full-blooded barn yards. There is a stronger base of Rhode Island Reds but probably about 6 other breeds because my wife liked beautiful chickens and sent me all over KY buying different ones for looks and we ended up with a mix. The plan is to get to about 150+ with 1/3 Rhode Islands, 1/3 Barrard Plymouth Rock, and 1/3 American Bresse and have a breading program to rotate them out every two years for each group. Let me know if you think that is a crazy plan. I'm going to "retire" to the farm in a year but right now the only thing I am good at raising is Great Pyrenees dogs. Well, I'm not good at that it is happening more than I need to have that feed bill. I found this sight and joined because I am rebuilding my Farm Master Incubator and have run past my ability and found this sight because it looks like a few have done this the right way before me.

I have the American Bresse and have had the Rhode Islands. I'd love to have some Barred Rocks and have the Rhode Island Reds back along with some Rhode Island Whites. Just not 50 of each again.8 hens and one rooster of those four breeds would be great. Then I'd like 8 +1 of French Black Copper Marans. I already have 8+1 of Cream Legbars and an unknown sex of 11 Saipans. The feed bill prevents us from having a coop and run of every breed I'd love to have just to have. I'm just chicken crazy and I admit it. I wish you well in all your endeavors in retirement.
