I have two new ducklings! We know that mom is a Cayuga however the dads are unknown. I’m guessing the older of the ducklings is a Rouen/Cayuga cross because of the stripes around her eyes. What do you think? This duckling is pretentiously named “Persephone Dubois” and was a Christmas miracle. I have tried incubating a number of my girls eggs and none had succeeded, until Persephone made her surprise appearance just before Christmas.
The second duckling born just today was much hoped for cause it was gonna be tough raising a solo duckling,(but I got great advice here on what to do with a solo duckling in winter).Of course the best would be to have another hatchling and that has now occurred. A blessing!
This duckling looks quite a bit different though, so I don’t think they shared a dad. They may or may not share a mom but regardless she is 100% Cayuga.
I found a terrific article here on colors and genetics for ducklings, but despite that I still don’t have the right information or didn’t understand it correctly to figure it out.
So I ask the experts here. The choices are:
1. Silver Appleyard
2. Saxony.
3. Dutch Hookbill, or
4. Rouen
Please check out the photos of the ducklings and potential daddies, attached!
Thank you for your wisdom and kindness
