Hi everyone, we just got three new chicks yesterday due to some deaths in our coop and I can't tell the Starlight Green Egger from the Araucana. Any experts out there that can help me out? Here are some pictures.

Araucana chickens in the US are Rumpless. In Australia, they do have rumps there.
Easy to check.
You may also have a Araucana that is mixed with other breeds. Then that chicken is likely to have a rump.
Still a Beautiful chicken that should lay beautiful BLUE eggs.🩵

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and :welcome

Where did you get your Araucana? The Starlight Green Egger should be from Hoover Hatchery but they do not list any Araucana. The approved colors/patterns for full sized fowl Araucana in the US are
For Bantams
If you know where they came from you may be able to figure out what down color/pattern your Araucana have. Assuming they really are true Araucana. Not all are. True Araucana are rumpless in the US and have tufts. Also a pea comb.

Your SGE was created by Hoover by crossing a Prairie Bluebell Egger with some unknown brown egg layer. They supposedly created the Prairie Bluebell Egger by crossing Araucanas with a White Leghorn and selectively breeding them to get what they want. Again, they kept many different colors.

According to the photos at Hoover's site the SGE should have a tail. That may be your biggest clue but I'm not sure all of their SGE's will. They might have tufts, they might not. They could have single combs, pea combs, or a cross in between. I don't know what criteria Hoover used to make those birds.

You can try contacting Hoover and see it they can help you identify the SGE. I would not expect a lot of help but maybe. If you know where the Araucana came from you can try the same with them. But suppliers of Araucana are well known to not always follow the breed criteria and the SGE are such a mix of different characteristics that you may have a really challenging task.

Good luck! Whatever they are you should really enjoy them.

Do you know what hatchery Murdoch's got the Araucana from?

Since Hoover's is the only hatchery I know that sells Starlight Green Eggers I assume you are in the US and you got those (SGE) from somebody selling Hoover chicks, but Hoover does not list an Araucana. It's possible Murdoch's got what they are calling Araucana from Hoover but that Hoover calls them something else. It can get that complicated.

If you modify your profile so your location is always available that will help with some questions. Not this one so much since I was able to deduce that you are somewhere in the US but it could help with other things.

If your Araucana are true Araucana (they are not always) they will lay blue eggs while your SGE will lay green eggs. That may be one way to tell.
