I have a beautiful mixed chicken. I would like to play around and see if I can make a flock of them, but it's complicated by my mixed flock. The dad was sent as a "mystery chick" when I bought a bunch of female chicks from McMurry (kind of a dirty trick, but still appreciated). I believe that he is an Easter Egger or Olive Egger. I don't know that there's a way to know, is there? Unless it's by egg color with hens, right?
Anyway, the hen group that he has includes Leghorn, Whiting True Blue, Whiting True Green, Red Star, Black Star and Buff Orpington.
I always believed that the mom was the Leghorn because when the chick was younger, she was white with a few flecks of black and a bit of rust around her face. Assuming that, I thought i could get a bunch of Legherns, incubate the eggs and choose the ones that look like her to get a flock of them and then figure out what to breed back to to try to keep that look.
I know that since the dad is a mix, my results will vary. Since the chick has gotten older, she is now a color somewhere between a dusty blue and a lavender. My phone doesn't do her color justice. Now I'm wondering if maybe she could belong to one of the other hens.
I'm going to post her pic, plus her dad's pic as well as her egg next to one of the eggs from the True Green hen. Her egg is the smaller one. They're usually as big as the other. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
