Why do my chickens roost in the middle of the day

Lots of possible reasons. What are the circumstances?

Chickens need periods of rest. Most chickens are pretty active in the morning and eat and lay and forage for a couple of hours. Then they will rest. Roosting or dirt bathing shows that they are full of food and feeling content. I'm talking chickens that are not sick. Mine have this routine. I have outdoor roosts so they are not going to the coop except to lay during the day.

Mine get up on the roosts to get away from oversexed cockerels

Loafing. The birds seek out a relatively thermal neutral location that also provides good viewing while also providing cover from overhead predators. Good place to rest.

I don't think it's that terribly odd. Mine are off and on the roosts all day.

The flock roosts several times a day. Wouldn't worry a bit
