Hello! I am looking into getting a broody hen since they will be able to teach the chicks how to be chickens, forage, and how to evade predators. I've read silkies are the best broody hens but are also one of the least predator savvy breeds and they prefer to sleep on the bottom of the coop instead of roosting. Will a silkie be good at raising chicks or would a more predator smart breed be better? Also, which predator smart breeds do you think are the most broody and would make good moms/teachers? I've heard bantams tend to go broody often but I am looking for a bigger hen so she can hatch more eggs without complications of not having enough heat for every egg.
