Hi all! I've got a black star who's decided to be broody and I noticed one of the eggs she's sitting on is huge! I candled it and it has 2 yolks. Is it possible for both yolks to grow chicks? I can't tell if they're fertilized yet. Has anyone ever had 2 chicks come from 1 egg? Here's a pic...The green/blue egg is next to it just for comparison (it's the same size as a large egg from the grocery). Thanks!

its very VERY rare to hatch a double yolker. It's a 50/50 chance they will live or they both will die during the pipping stage hatch. I'd give it a go and let her set on it and see what happens. There is only one air sac. And only one of the chicks is able to reach the air sac. Some people do assistant hatching and that usually helps them and they end up surviving! I've seen videos and post about twin chicks.

Are the videos and posts on here or should I try to google it? If me helping at the hatch stage gives them a better chance I want to learn all I can! Do you think they'd be twins or could they each be different? Thanks for the help!

Someone hatched a double yoke egg on here, but she had to help it out on day 20 I think, and then they grew up just fine. I had a double yoke egg and I tried to help it out it they passed away a few hours later. I think it takes luck to hatch it out. Good luck with yours!!

This is a picture of the ones I almost hatched. Also they can be different colors.

Thanks for all the help everyone! I'll check out the videos and posts! I'll keep you posted on how its going too, for anyone interested!

Here's some pics of the "twin" egg where I candled it this morning. You can't really see in the pics (or maybe you can, I can't but I'm not very experienced with hatching my own eggs), but both yolks are definitely fertile. I could see the veining starting on each one. I'm kinda nervous about when the time comes for hatching. I've been checking out the videos and posts but I think I need to find some that go into more detail about what to do to help and if/when I should help.

My hen laid a huge egg too its the size of the one you posted a pic of. My hen is not broody so I took 15 of the eggs and IM incubating them its my first time i candled the huge one and i see what i think I'd 2 yolks on at the top and one at the bottom i hope and pray they all hatch although i know some probably wont make it
