Last year I decided to add a pair of Red Golden pheasants to my dove aviary, and before I bought them I did my research like any responsible animal owner should do. Among many things, I read that Red Golden were quiet birds who had beautiful mating calls in the spring. Well, spring rolled around about a month ago and ever since my male Red Golden has been screaming. This isn't some 'alert call', because he only started doing this after first trying to persuade my female to mate. It's odd because he'll do this really pretty chirping sound(much like a bird), then just start screaming. Will he do this every year? I live in town and I'm afraid my neighbors might get fed up with a pheasant screaming all day for several months every year.
Another thing is that, a couple days ago, I was outside doing yard work when he started his chirping. He chirped for a few seconds like usual, then started to scream, but after a second of screaming he suddenly started singing loudly. It was such a beautiful sound, it definitely beat any songbird's singing. There was no pause between the spit second scream and the singing. He's only a year old, so he doesn't have his colors in. Does that mean his screaming is just an attempt to sing and he just hasn't quite learned to sing yet, since he's young?
