The Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia!
I was given ring neck pheasant eggs to hatch and I now have 5 pretty babies....

my question....
I have them in with guineas and am wondering if when the time comes will I
be able to put them out to free range and they stay or will they run off?

I have guineas, ducks, chickens and peafowl all free ranging....they all come home
for dinner and bed. Hoping that since the pheasants are being brought up with
guineas that they might follow suit...

A free ranging guinea couple just brought their family to the house to show off....15 keets...sooo cute!

Hello,
For the most part I agree with what has been said but I have ringnecks that I raise and set free if they want and for the most part many of them do fly away but there are a few that will stay around. I'm guessing they want the treats! I have about 6 from last year that come back every other night when I am out there and I have even had 1 female make a nest with her eggs. So sometimes you do the loner ones but for the most part they will diappear.
Good luck,
Patty

I have three melanistic ringnecks that I hatched along with six chukars. I was given the eggs, threw them in the incubator with some chicken and guinea eggs and hatched them. Now, they're all outside, about eight weeks old, and they free range by day and come back (both chukars and pheasants) in the evening when the turkeys come in and go right in the coop. I also have a friend who lets her chukars out every morning and they come straight away home and never leave the front yard and barnyard. Just like chickens. My pheasant will probably fly away some day. But right now they think they are turkeys. I am happy to see them prowling around in the tall grass I let grow in my yard for the birds. The chukars run under my feet when I am feeding so I am really careful. I can take pics to share if you want to see them. I think it depends on the birds. My chukars seem totally content here. The pheasant ... they stay out as long as they dare but food brings them for sure. It's fun and I hope they stay for a while, but the day they don't come home won't surprise me either. Peace ~ Ang
