What's the best and most cost efficient plastic sheeting material to use to wrap around the chicken run in the winter to keep wind out?

I use the nearly clear stuff from the big box store that comes in rolls, and double it up. It covers the lower six feet of the run, leaving the upper foot or so open for ventilation. It's attached with staples first, then wood strips are screwed over it into the framing. It held up very well, and was reused another year.
I can't say that it adds beauty, but the coop and run are very comfortable for the chickens! Mary

Do you intend to use it year after year or toss it in spring? UV Treated 6mil greenhouse film can last 5-6 years, cheap box store 6mil film can last 1-2 years. I would suggest pricing your local box stores and figure out the price per square foot. I'd also checkout greenhouse mega store on line as well as walmart and amazon. Again figure price per square foot. Also, look at different sizes when pricing as some sizes are far more inexpensive than others. Remember you still want lots of ventilation above the birds when calculating your size requirements. Length of the roll is also something that drives price, longer is generally cheaper.

@Folly's place gave you good instructions for securing the plastic. Staples alone won't do it.

I already had the rolls of plastic, so didn't do any comparison shopping. I'd add that because it comes down in spring, annual wear and tear might figure into the longevity of the pricier stuff, which isn't meant to be handled that much. Mary

This is my first winter with my girls... Where I live in Ct, we don't always have cold winters, but we do have wet ones. Add the wind, and you have a recipe for unhappy chickens (from what I've learned). I'm planning to put the plastic around part of the run early next month probably. I have a two part run. I built it in a dog run, so part of the area is covered on a concrete pad (which gets a thick cover of straw to prevent bumble foot) and the rest is uncovered and in the dirt. I'm only planning on putting plastic around the roofed area so they have the choice of being 'outside' or 'inside'.

NEW winter chicken owner..... at what temperature do you wrap your coop? I live in Christian County in KY, not too far above Nashville TN. Should I be looking into wrapping my run?!?:hmm
Sorry my reply above was for this post, not the thread question.

Some people only put plastic on one or two sides to stop the wind from the main direction it blows from.
