Writing dates on Eggs You're going to Eat?

Is it unhealthy to write the dates on the eggs you are going to eat?
Are you thinking as far as using a permanent marker and wondering if ink would get inside the shell?
I don't really know if that is a big deal or not. I wouldn't let it stop me.
If you were worried about that you could use a pencil. Not as permanent, but still works.

You can use crayons, too. They are usually non-toxic (since they are meant for small children who often put things in their mouths.)

So not only would the crayon stay on the outside of the shell, it would not hurt you even if you did happen to eat some of it.

That's so true. Thank you. I guess I will reach for either a pencil or crayon.

I date my eggs with pencil on the fat end. I started doing it so I could set some aside for hard-boiling; eggs about two weeks old or older typically peel better, I've found. I just got in the habit and now that I sell eggs I've found that my customers really appreciate knowing exactly how fresh my eggs are.
