Your Dogs thoughts on chickens ~ a poll

Hi ! I thought it would be fun to do a poll on dog reactions to birds! Please select one option per dog you have if your dogs Demeanor has changed than choose the current and past reaction . Our dog is not allowed into the chicken run at all. I don't let her get too close to it either, as it scares the birds. She probably would go for them if she had the chance, so I make sure she doesn't have the chance.

After a heck of a lot of training my German Shepherd/Border Collie cross ignores the chickens. She also barks at birds of prey and chases them away.

If she is crazy excited and doing a tuck tailed 'puppy run' around the yard, then she will every once in a while run INTO the chickens and bowl them over for fun. But no teeth. She's 9, so I'm certain they're safe at this point.

HOWEVER - she will bite and eat a loose chick like it's her job. So we have to keep babies separate. She does not connect chicks with chicken.

**Edit to say the chickens love the dog and run towards her and climb on her.

Mine is curious and would probably chase if one started to panic and run, but she knows better than to try and chase them usually.

My dog thinks they are a distraction for me. He dies inside if I ever tell him the chickens are going to get the table scraps. I think if he could wish them away he would.

Oh yeah - mine has the jealousy factor too. I HAVE to give her a bite of whatever scraps they're getting. She will even eat dumb stuff like pineapple rinds to prove her point.

My dog is convinced that sitting will earn him treats. So every time the chicken treats come out, down he goes. He also knows when I'm collecting a bowl that I fed the chickens with and will jump up next to me until he gets to lick the non-existent leftovers .
