Just thought I'd share this recipe with everyone. I keep a crock of it going on weekends and any other time we're home, and whoever's at the house just helps themselves.

In the morning pour 1/2 gallon of apple cider or juice and about 1-2 cups cranberry juice (you'll just have to see how much cranberry flavor you like) into your crockpot and turn in on high. Add either orange peel from about 1/2 of an orange or the peel from a tangerine. If I know we're having company I sometimes use orange slices. Now, here's the spice packet: take a regular old coffee filter from a drip coffeemaker, put in about 2 Tbsp ground cinnamon, 1 tsp ground allspice, and 1/2 tsp ground cloves. Gather up the edges of the filter and tie off with a piece of unwaxed, unflavored dental floss or anything else you have that can simmer with the cider. Put the spice packet in the crock. Put on the lid and let simmer until afternoon. By this time it's piping hot, the spices and orange peel have done their thing, and you can ladle it into mugs and enjoy!

I usually turn my crockpot down to low after about 3 hours, then it stays on the rest of the day. More ingredients can be added throughout the day as needed.

Last year I had the brilliant idea to start a crock of this before I went to bed on Christmas Eve. The kids were very happy to have something hot and tasty to drink when they got up at the crack of dawn!!!

Hope you all are enjoying the holiday season!

I use the cocktail, just because that's what I usually have on hand, but I'm sure you could use regular cranberry juice if you wanted. You probably wouldn't use as much, though????
