OMG! Something must be in the water! Had two start to try to go broody. Goldie(gold neck) is pissed I put her in a crate (again. I swear I just broke her) and... As we were checking on them after sunset, there was another one(Australorp) in a nest making those raptor noises broodies make! Gah! Lol
After a crazy week with babies inside being treated for coccidiosis, and in between rain, we finally got out new run assembled! (Even made an article about it, it's not perfect: run or article lol)
But here it is. The girls have a lot more space as we've planned for a while now.
This morning, I looked out and saw our big girl, HeadHen running and being pecked. I was like, whoa, nuhu... Went out and she had a frog they were all chasing her for . Poor little dude. Then our biggest girl, ShyGirl(aka mini dino) got it and they chased her for ever trying to get it back. Lol...
Moved second set of babies outside and got lumber laid out for the run extension this weekend I hope lol (che is not on, it's just still in place from when we moved the others out and we had a drop to 25 after a week of low 40s)
I would love to send you some heat! Lol if it would just stay warm/hot then we'd be find and able to acclimate some, until winter rolls around haha, but here in Indiana we sort of have summer weather longer than anything.
Winter, summer and construction are our seasons lol!
If only the rain...
Finally managed to get it to quite late at night, thankfully, working as housekeeping with a migraine sucks.
But today I removed the cardboard around the nest boxes (from winterizing lol) and added their sled pool as we have a heat wave (haha) and already had two of our bigger girls panting
I did not much but feed them and gather eggs as I've been fighting a migraine all day . I did turn on their fans though. I don't like it when I don't get to visit much lol they are definitely more pet than livestock
Made chick doors for the outsiders. Had a few pecks, and not from the ones I was expecting - but babies can escape and mingle more
Annnnnd after just breaking one hen (took six days) our Mama may decide to go broody again...(who has been broody twice before, this would be third, she's a year old)
Our entire yard is soggy lol
Added a bit of pine for now. A rework is in the works but we have to wait for the rain to stop lol four days last week and three this... April showers lol
Haven't done it yet, but I know what I will be doing. Adding dirt to the puddles at the end of the run. It has rained non-stop going on day two? I believe, and we have another day of it too.
When I mucked a few weeks ago I dug too deep and made a hole lol I did that so we could have room to...
I've let our same Orpington go broody and hatch twice. I'm not allowed anymore chicks(😂 lol) and honestly don't have room to put her and babies since we just moved 6weekers outside lol
