Should i order my chicks now?

I live in southern new york and i dont know if i should order them now or wait. If i get them now, they will go outside in early or mid-may. what do you guys think?

A lot of people order chicks early in March so that their pullets will start laying sooner. I personally like to raise chicks later in May or June. I think its easier to raise them when the temps are high outside. This way you can get them outside sooner. The problem with starting chicks later is that they may not begin to lay until the following spring because of winter and too few hours of light. But that may not be a problem depending on your demand for eggs.

Hi I in the southern tier of NY, and I ordered my chicks last year on April 22. I figured it would be warm enough by the time they were out of their brooder to go outside. It worked out good. So I'd wait a couple more weeks just to make sure.
