Now that the ear worm is in your head, I wanted to share with you my coop - so excited that after 6 weeks of building - some of it during the fickle Wisconsin spring weather - it is done! 7 week old chicks will go in next week - assuming temps warm up here.
Prefab "Round Top Loft" chicken coop from Roost & Root (Austin, TX) - 9' x 6'. Ordered in early Feb, delivered on time to our place in Spooner, WI. Heavy cedar with 16 gauge wire, no poop feeder and no poop waterer. Also purchased the winterize package which includes panels for the wired areas which will help keep some wind/snow out in winter. Coop was very easy to put together in about 1.5 hours with only a drill. Husband helped me design and build a cedar, 10x9 chicken run off the back that chickens can get to via the chicken door in the coop and a full-sized door off the back. The coop and the run sit on top of a 10' x 16' frame that has hardware cloth on the bottom and it extends 2' out from each side. We filled the inside up with dirt and let it settle for a few days/rain.
I think we did a pretty good job matching the 'style' of the original coop when we designed the run. Lots of room to roost and hang out. Goal is to let the 12 chickens free-range most days.
