Don't understand what my ducks are thinking!

It's been snowing since before dawn. Still, it's not terribly cold, so I bundled up and scooped all the nasty straw and poopy mess out of the runner ducks' shelter as soon as I let them out.

Snow is now coming down horizontally and piling up. I looked out, expecting to see the runners all happily settled inside their warmer, cleaner shelter.

No. All seven are curled up outside, heads tucked in, slowly being buried in snow. They must have learned from the geese. Gussie and Golly often abandon their shelter to lie in the snow as they peer into the basement windows.

Chickens are all cooped up. I am not giving them any opportunity to exasperate me!

Ducks/geese deal with snow differently than chickens. They simply squat down and pull their feathers up into their downy bellies.

Well, I would still feel better if they would at least pretend to appreciate my efforts to make them comfortable! The little ingrates!

My ducks are daft too-- we don't have snow here in Florida but we have rain. We had rain ++ today and cold rain at that. They were all outside and two were swiming in the wading pool. The others decided to raid my raised veggie beds and were eating datil pepper leaves. Maybe the curcumin keeps them warm!!
